Welp, Boogie. At least you tried.
In training camp, DeMarcus Cousins vowed to cut down on technical fouls, and set a goal to pick up only five of them or less in the whole 2014-15 season. This is hilariously ambitious. Last year, Cousins shared the league lead with 16. In 2012-13, he led the league with 17. In the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, he finished No. 2 with 12. As a rookie, he finished No. 5 in techs with 14.
So in all four of his NBA seasons, Boogie Cousins has finished in the top five in technicals. But his aim is to cut them down to no more than five this year, a worthy objective. There is one problem: he is still DeMarcus Cousins. Through three preseason games, he already has two techs. The latest came in Shanghai early Sunday morning.
That maniacal, sarcastic laughter would have gotten him ejected by many NBA refs in the regular season.
As a Kings fan, I actually don't mind Boogie picking up a tech every other week or so. He often does so making a valid point about illegal contact in the lane or a bad call. Most of the league's best players get T'd up regularly: Cousins shared the league lead in techs with Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin, two top-10 players, last season.
But Cousins created the goal, and it's going to be hilarious when he blows past No. 5 before Thanksgiving.
